Sometimes we could all use a lift.
A boost. A pick-me-up... The proverbial "shot in the arm."
My guess is that Trisha Walz is having one of those days.
I woke up this morning, fine tuning my mind on what approach I was going to take for her senior blog, and as I'm wont to do, I was scrolling through my facebook newsfeed this morning and I see this from her mother.
"After a long day of baseball and softball Trisha gets injured and sitting in the ER."
Emergency room?!?!
Turns out our South Tama first baseman, in giving her all, stretched for that extra inch on an infield put out against arch rival Grinnell last night and heard a pop.
That pop? Her hamstring.
It's yet to be determined until a visit with the orthopedic doctor whether it's a severe strain or a full blown tear, but regardless... #14 is hurting this morning.
This old photographer knows EXACTLY what that POP and TEAR feels like, so I can empathize at the very least. And while I can't speed up the healing process for her, what I can do is give her a lift by showing her and all her family and friends what we came up with Monday morning.
Truth is... I had received an "advanced scouting report" on this young lady a couple of years ago. Her former basketball coach had just promoted her to varsity status her sophomore season and was sharing strategy with his old friend the photographer when the truth came out.
"You're gonna want this one at your studio in a couple of years."
Translation: The camera will like her.
The old ball coach wasn't lying. A quick glance through her blog images leave no doubt, Miss Walz was an excellent catch for our studio.
I was warned that the session would kick off with Trisha being photographed with her side kick, Sugar. Sugar is her horse... and I prepped the family (Papa Tim, Mama Candi and Grandma Barb all in attendance) that our task was to get Sugar in position and then hope and pray (and make fools of ourselves if necessary) to get our four legged friend to rotate her ears forward.
Always THE challenge when dealing with horses.
Sometimes it goes better than others... This was not one of those times. :)
Sugar wasn't so sweet for a good couple of hours as we struggled (but ultimately succeeded). The Stewart Photography audience really should have been there to see what worked best in the end... which was Candi jumping at Sugar and yelling, "BOO!"
Hey... you do whatcha gotta do, right, Candi??
In the end... we did get amazing images of our beauty and beast and it was off to do other things... like overcome the fear of snakes!
Trisha crossed paths with a couple slithering creatures when trying to get down near creek-side in her little orange dress. I thought for SURE that the sight of the two snakes would have her tapping out on the creek images... but I was impressed! She was bound and determined to get that image... and I'm glad we did.
Speaking of being impressed. As if being beautiful and athletic isn't enough... what Hawkeye born fella couldn't be impressed with a senior girl wanting to wear custom black and gold stiletto HEELS adorned with the words "Iowa" and "Hawks" on the sides?!?
My sources tell me she's had the same boyfriend since her 8th grade year... and when a girl agrees to wear black and gold to prom complete with THOSE shoes?!?? You best never let THAT one go!
Finally, the last request that Trisha had for me was to pay homage to her namesake. Great Grandma Lucille.
Two senior sessions into the Class of 2014 and I'm two-for-two with tributes to great grandparents. How cool is that?
I was told that Lucille was much more than just a handed down family name to Trisha... they were actually very close until her passing in June of 2011... so it was the least I could do to create a tribute fitting of Lucille and her great granddaughter.
So that was my first senior GIRL session of the new class, and what a way to kick things off for the ladies. It been an epic week thus far with a couple more huge sessions under our belt and a June packed full the rest of the way...
Best wishes in your recovery from your injured hammy, Trisha! If it's any consolation... your book is ready and you can kill time scouring over your images! Cya soon!
