I've been told over the years that our images, our experience and our
blog brings tears to senior mom's eyes on a regular basis... but even
this was a new one to me.
The Class of 2014 officially kicked of Wednesday morning, and fittingly... rain was falling.
East Marshall's Gustavo Wallen and his mother, Jody arrived with the idea that we would get Gus's indoor done, and probably reschedule the outdoor.
We talked about what we wanted to accomplish, whether or not we got it all in that day or had to reschedule... and it was clear to me, Gus had one main passion he wanted to highlight...
Fishing.
More importantly, I had a rare request from a senior and that was to work in a grandparent as part of the session. And not just a grandparent... but a GREAT grandparent.
And while I've had images evoke strong emotions from our clients, as we were just TALKING about doing them... I paused... looked up... and there was Mama Jody... already wiping tears away.
Five minutes into the process... not a single exposure taken.
Gus, as most senior guys would do in this situation was shaking his head at his emotional mom, but it was clear... Great Grandpa was a special guy.
So we did our series of indoor images, and wouldn't cha know it? The skies lifted... and we were off to the family farm and secret fishin' hole to get what Gus really came for.
I had been to Great Grandpa Albert's home back on July 3, 2007 when Gus was just 11 years old for family pictures. He's certainly gotten a lot taller and ditched his old glasses for contacts... but he still loves Grandpa's farm... and so it was a perfect spot to get the rustic images they wanted.
While those images certainly will mean alot to Gus, it will be impossible to put a price on the images that we got with Great Grandpa Jackson.
A spry 94 years young, Albert got around without any assistance from a walker or a cane... and I thought to myself... "Dang! I hope I can pull that off when I'm in my 90's!"
I was told that Albert made a special trip to get himself a new fishin' hat for the occasion, and it did look mighty fine on grandpa when we got out to the pond.
The boys, one young... one even younger, took turns casting out into the water.... I made them stop and pose for me now and then, but I thought it was really pretty cool to see how they interacted with each other, despite the age difference. Mama Jody was playing the role of right hand gal to the photographer... but I could tell... it was truly special to see HER grandfather... and her now nearly grown son... together one more time doing what they do best..... Fish.
Gus kept on drawing the ire of his mom by casting out into the water just one more time hoping against hope that he'd snag a fish why we were out there... but for the most part... it was picture day, not so much the day to land the big one. But in the end, while no fish were caught... we no doubt had a lot to be thankful for. The session was complete... we set a new record for oldest client included in a senior session... and I'm one for one this year for making senior mom's cry tears of joy.
Not a bad day... not a bad day at all.

This article was absolutely beautiful and really brought me, an Aunt that lives 1600 miles away, to this exact moment for my nephew and sister! I was in tears! These are amazing pictures that really captured beautiful moments and will be a part of our family for a lifetime!
Sincerely,
Sonya
**Gustavo, you look so grown up and handsome...can't wait to see you in about a month! xoxo
