Somethin' in those eyes...

Even though we weren't friends back then, I always thought there was something cool... if not a little freaky about Phil Anderson's eyes.

A lighter blue or aqua color that you don't see often set him apart dating back to the late 80s when he and I ran track against each other for LDF and SEMCO, respectively.

Now before he, or any of you go and accuse me of being something that I'm not by going on and on about another man's eyes, stay with me here...

I had the opportunity to photograph Phil's oldest daughter, Sarah a couple of years back in an epic session for all-times as we roadtripped to Shattuck-St. Mary's private school in Minnesota for the session.  Because Sarah had spent her four high school years up north, I didn't get much of a chance, if ever to see her after she left middle school.

After becoming reacquainted with Sarah, I mentioned to my wife something to the effect of... "you can DEFINITELY tell who's kid SHE belongs to!"   Why?

The eyes.

So when daughter No. 2 of three came due for senior pictures last Wednesday, I knew that my job was going to be an easy one again because of the unmistakable peepers were gonna make another appearance.  ;)

In fact... this go around, I was blessed with getting to photograph all THREE daughters at once as Sarah, Kels and Daddy's baby girl, Brittany all made the session for some images together for Papa Phil and Mother Mary.

I felt a sense of REALLY wanting to blow Kelsea's doors off because I know how being a middle child feels... and with older sis having such a connection with me from before, I wanted to ensure that Kels and I made our own epic memories and that I, too... was "her" photographer.

It woulda been real easy for Kels to have said... "Ya know what?   I want something different for MY session.  Let's use another photographer."

Granted, her pops may have had a little somethin' to say in my defense if that had happened... but you know what the neatest thing (eyes aside) about Kelsea's session to me was?   It was when the girls got to talking about where this person or that person were going for senior pictures and Kelsea looked at me and said... "I don't know why they would go anywhere else but here!"

It was halfway through the session... but I felt like victory was already mine.

We had already been to Kelsea's Uncle Chuck's land just east of LeGrand for the outdoor... and made a trip into Tama/Toledo for some urban looks when I received a one of the few requests that her Mama had all day.   Mary had spied an angel on the side of an old church in Tama that she asked me to use for one shot.   I was told that Kelsea's grandmother always calls her, "her angel."   Although it was up for debate among those in the H3 whether I should make her look like an angel or perhaps a little ornery devil... we completed the request, and the image DOES have a smidgen of ornery mixed in with Grandma's Angel.

In the end it was another great day in what is shaping up to be a great senior season.   Kelsea's father and I have have lots of discussions about the past... the present and the future... local issues... and business in general... he knows what makes me tick... and because of that... he also knows that nothing makes me happier than to be able to serve those I consider my friends that I stand shoulder to shoulder with in our community.

Nothing.

Thanks for your loyalty, Team Anderson.   Two daughters... two great experiences.   God willing, see ya in four summers, Little Miss Brittany.  :)
