This was a fun one... no doubt.
Even BEFORE they got here... it was game on.
I
kinda knew what to expect... I had photographed older sis as part of
the BCLUW Class of 2011... met Mama Barb back then, of course. In
addition... I'd spied Miss Kayla Benjamin playing first base for the
Comets this past year and knew the ol' lefty was pumped for her session
thru facebook and twitter posts in the days and weeks leading up to her
date.
Even the night before her session Kayla was having an epic
dilemma. One that threatened to ruin her session if not decided on
properly.
You guessed it. Straight? Or Curly?
The
masses at large chimed in trying to persuade our future guest of honor
on which route she should take. Her photographer sat on the fence,
encouraging her to do BOTH... but in the end... she only took one
direction when she came to the fork in the road.
Straight.
So
straight haired Kayla, her Mom, and even sister Brianne made a repeat
appearance. Team Benjamin was in the house, hair dilemma over and it
was time to get down to business.
Or was it?
Kayla was one
of those kids who seemed practically incapable of pulling off a serious
look. Oh sure... she dug deep and found a way with her sports stuff...
only because sports collage nearly ALWAYS require having a healthy dose
of B.A. But for her regular Kayla being Kayla stuff? Ninety-nine
percent smiles.
There really wasn't much of a choice in this
matter, as between Brianne and Kayla and all the incessant giggling that
went on for hours, how could ANYONE be serious, really?
It made
for high comedy when Kayla was nearly failing in her attempt to navigate
her way down into our creek area (thank God she didn't wreck herself...
it was close, folks). In addition, I'm not sure why it tickled her so
watching her sister give her best shot at being my photographer's
assistant by holding an umbrella to gobo out some sunlight, but... trust
me... it was. Check out the smile on Kayla in the pink flowers...
Probably the most genuine of them all. Why? Because these two sisters
were doing what sisters do. Giggle-fest.
Maybe taking off her
trademark glasses somehow allowed Kayla to garner up the strength to be
serious just long enough to pull off her sports stuff with a glare that
was worthy of being one of the Comets' very best. As mentioned...
Kayla follows a stellar line of Stewart Photography "alums" that played
first base including Kendra Smith, and Danielle Montgomery most
recently... but in her spare time... she also throws shot/discus for the
track team... runs cross country for Donna Fiscus' troops, and if that
weren't enough, she also pounds the mat for the Storm wrestling squad in the winter.
Whew!
It's
always great catching up with former senior moms (loyalty) and former
senior clients (buddies for life), but more importantly, I got another
new friend in the deal, and I just wanted to thank her for her patience
over this long wait... I know it couldn't have been easy. Come get
your preview book. It's ready. ;)
