There's no wrong way to photograph a Reece(s)

Ok... this isn't a cup of a perfectly blended mix of chocolate and peanut buttery deliciousness... but just go with it.

What it IS, is another terrific senior in a summer that's been chocked full of them, and what it also is... is another old friend bringing business back our way.

For those familiar with the beginnings of the East Marshall Era (also known as LDF-SEMCO circa 1990-92) many will remember some new kids that moved in from Hubbard-Radcliffe that year.  The Reeces...   Micah graduated with the author of this blog... followed by her brother Josh the next year in '91 and then the twins, Jeremy and Jason in '92.

The last of the aforementioned Reece siblings, Jason... called me about a month ago.

I gave him the entire senior spiel... and while I could tell he was most likely listening with one ear (and letting it go out the other) waiting for the only real relevant thing that a dad needs to know (what do I owe and when?), Jason admitted something to me in classic fatherly fashion...

"I just want this over with."

Trust me bro... for a guy that in the past year went through senior pictures AND a wedding... I'm feelin' ya.

Sure, some of it is just brazen bro code things that dudes just have to say... but if we're honest... we've all been part of planning for something that... after awhile... you're just ready for it to reach it's conclusion.

But don't tell that to his daughter!   Or his step daughter, for that matter.

To connect the dots here... if you go back two blogs, you'll see Jason's step daughter, Kadyn... and perhaps therein lies ANOTHER reason Mr. Reece just "wanted this over with."    One senior girl under your roof is certainly enough... but TWO?

Prayers, brother.   Prayers.

:)

So when Jason's baby girl, Kailyn pulled up at the studio that morning... and her dad rolled up across the street from her on his Harley, I knew that even though I had an old friend visiting... I was gonna have my work cut out for me.

Most of the time the senior pictures thing sees a trio of Photographer/Senior/Senior Mom.   MOST of the time.   Of course there's exceptions...  a friend tags along... a boyfriend... a grandparent... and yes... SOMEtimes even dad makes an appearance.

This was one of those times.

So while he, like most men, would rather be doing guy things... like working, earning, providing and such... he was doing Dad Duty on this day... and it was my job to make it not feel like waterboarding torture to him.

Oh, I knew I'd have Kailyn won over in no time... she seemed to be stacked with energy and had four super cute outfits to go along with her West Marshall volleyball and track gear.

Speaking of black-n-gold Trojan gear... how cool is this girl's sportster collage?   Dang.

But before we could get to that... we had a myriad of movin' to do from spot to spot with Miss Kailyn... and Papa Jason was there every step of the way.   He may not admit it... but he got to taking his job as grey card wrangler and reflector holder pretty darn seriously as the morning rolled on from Montour to Marshalltown.

Sure, Kailyn was forced to endure some good-ol-days talk from her pops and photographer... and Dad probably spent an hour or two longer than he planned, but in the end... it was yet another awesome day in what seems to be a never ending string of them lately.

Thanks Team Reece for your trust in our studio.  I hope you get that 4x200 record, this year, Kailyn... and may all your spikes find the floor this volleyball season!
