Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to people.
And this is one of those instances.
It's a regular thing around here to see parents and seniors go through the epic struggle of getting here on time.
Especially with our 8 a.m. session.
It's hard to blame 'em. I know of at least a couple of my own kids that I'd nearly guarantee that looking their best... all of their MYRIAD of stuff, loaded up and ready go so they're down here by 8 a.m.?
Not happenin'.
So before I judge... I point the finger right back at myself.
That being said, I must also point out awesomeness and organization when I see it, and a BIG Stewart Photography shout out is in order for Bondurant-Farrar's Myles Laven.
Most of the aforementioned late-arriving-offenders are coming "all the way" from far off lands like Tama, Gilman, LeGrand, Marshalltown, Garwin or, *gasp*... even Conrad or Gladbrook!
In this case... Mr. Laven and his mother pulled up 35 minutes early and they drove here from an hour away!
All the sports stuff was not forgotten... uniforms from head to toe... hair was spiked and styled and we were ready to rock.
I'm a fan.
We had dealt with the Laven's a couple years back when sister, Mariah was in... so I kinda knew what to expect... and Myles did not disappoint.
Tall... lanky... and yep... That trademark red hair.
Unlike his sis, however, we got the session in one fell swoop, rather than having to reschedule due to the rain.
Followers of this blog space are aware that the previous TWO posts prior to this one were near misses on the reschedule issue. And while we didn't have to deal with rain... weather did not avoid being a factor.
It was your typical crisp October morning to be sure... but then you add in a sustain thirty mile per hour WIND... and it was uncomfortable to say the least.
I greeted the Laven's at the door (which i was holding FIRMLY to keep the wind from wildly flipping it open) and told our grinning red head... "I've never been SO glad to see a dude with short hair!"
Myles' close cut style came in handy on this day as photographing a gal with long hair may have proven to be almost impossible in such conditions. Not for Mr. Myles, however. He was a gamer.
As was the case with round one with Team Laven, a trip to Three Bridges State Park west of LeGrand was in order. The winds blowing off the river were blustery and we kept letting Myles warm up in the Hummer to keep his nose from turning red... and his hands from turning blue! Fortunately Mama Jill avoided the disasterous header that nearly felled her the last go around with her daughter. She evidently learned her lesson, and was MUCH more careful as we made the tricky trek to get down near the Iowa River.
A return the cozy confines of the studio allowed us the chance to bang out some more of our trademark sports stuff. We talked track and overcoming injuries... hoops and hopefully breaking into the varsity rotation.
The future DMACC student that may end up in landscape architechture... possibly with an eventual landing spot at Iowa State, had a smile that came early and often. Unlike some guys, I had to tell him NOT to smile... especially on the SPORTS stuff!
I best complete this blog, because even though we close in one hour and forty minutes... I have no doubt that Team Laven, if given the chance... can be on time to get it before close if they set their mind to it!
:)
