Sax in the City

I will say this about Andrew...

Dude knows how to make an entrance.

Thursday afternoon I pop open the door for our senior and his mom... and instead of shorts, a tee and flip flops... in rolls Mr. Andrew dressed to the nines and lookin' sharp in an all black suit.

In followed three saxophones, his Marshalltown basketball warm up and a lid that was a cross somewhere in between Jason Mraz and Paul Bear Bryant.

Andrew informed me that a year from now he'll be chasing his dream to be a professional musician by attending school in either Oklahoma or Indiana... and if the PRO thing doesn't work out, it'll be teaching music somewhere. So... needless to say... we know where this guy's heart lies. And I may put my two cents in... any guy that can make a soprano sax levitate in mid air... I'd say he's going pro. ;-) (see below)

I asked Andrew what the highlight of his hoops career was thus far... and he told me that he scored this year against Ames (for those of you that don't know... the Little Cyclones completed back-to-back undefeated runs to state titles over the last two seasons, making them arguably one of the best teams in state history). I have no doubt that THAT modest 2-point bucket, 40 years from now.... when Andrew is then Grandpa Talbert... will have grown into a posterizing dunk over NBA Hall-of-Famer, Harrison Barnes. :-) (i won't tell if you don't, Andrew)
