Adie 101: The girl with the curl...
How can you not just love this kid?
A month ago I wouldn't have known Adie Ortiz from a hill of beans... but it didn't take long for her to win me over.
One glance at the girl with the freckles-n-curls and an infectious smile and enthusiasm to match and I knew I was in for a fun session.
It takes a lot to get me to enjoy working in 101 degree heat, but that's the hand we were dealt a month ago today. Can you believe that? 101 degrees in mid September?
If anyone could handle it... it was Adie.
No amount of heat and humidity could make her hair curlier... and it certainly wasn't gonna slow her roll. Call it just natural cheerleader spunk or pizzazz, she had it and it was my job to bring it out.
Fittingly, I thought, Adie had an additional project for me on top of her Bobcat cheer stuff and her super bright plaid and gorgeous dress. In fact... she looked so forward to the idea that she was in that outfit FIRST.
The project? Emulate Rosie the Riveter.
A self proclaimed history buff, Adie told me she had always admired the World War II cultural icon. For those of you that are unfamiliar, perhaps... Rosie and her "We Can Do It" slogan symbolized the legions of American women who, in the absence of their male counterparts who were overseas fighting in the war... took up factory jobs back on the mainland to keep our country running strong.
So, the symbol of feminine strength, willpower and patriotism was something that Adie wanted to see if we could pay tribute to... and anyone who knows me... knows I love a challenge. As you can see from the first image in this blog... Miss Ortiz makes a fine Rosie.
You might have to struggle a bit to get past the cute freckles to see the inner tough girl, but it's there... and I'm glad I got the chance to photograph this one-of-a-kind.
