Noah Scheidel kept me on my toes.
Some guys are pretty predictable... but not this dude.
Around every corner was another surprise.
Mama Shannon and Noah came rollin' in about a month ago and had very few requests... but the first one was a mild surprise.
"I want some images with my mountain bike."
Ok...
I don't see that very often... so it was a new challenge this year.
I've seen plenty of cars, ATV's and even motorcycles and motorbikes...
this GMG senior took a different approach.
The second surprise
came in the form of Noah's career path. Many times as a point of
conversation, I'll ask seniors what their future plans are... and Mr.
Scheidel again came up with an unconventional answer.
"I'm going into aviation."
Come again?
Dude
has spent some time in the Land of 10,000 Lakes hitting up some
aviation camps and schools to determine if this was indeed the tract he
wants to take with his life, and evidently nothing has deterred him as
Mr. Scheidel is now planning on attending Minnesota State University and
going through their aviation program there.
Not that getting a business degree from UNI or Simpson isn't admirable... but aviation? Don't hear that often.
Then the conversation turned to football.
I know... shocking.
Noah
has been part of a turnaround of the GMG football program this fall.
After seeing just one victory in his first three seasons with the
Wolverines, the black and silver are sitting at 3-3 after six games this
year. Led by new head coach Mike Spurlin and his forget-the-past and
live-in-the-now approach, I'm sure three wins feels amazing for the
folks in the Green Mountain and Garwin communities.
So, when I
looked at Noah... and his thin build I asked him what position he
played... figuring I'd hear... cornerback... wingback... wide
receiver.... something of that sort.
His answer?
"Offensive guard."
Whaaa?
Obviously
Mr. Scheidel gets by with more heart than braun, and while I'd rather
have his build than my currently inflated two-fiddy... I'm guessing that
Coach Spurlin might LIKE Noah to be toting 250 lbs right about now!
Finally,
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention something that seems to be a trend
here at Stewart Photography this year. I've joked with each and every
one of them about it, because there have been more than normal this
senior season.
I had heard recently that someone has done the
genetic math and it has been theorized that by the year 2060, there will
be no more red-heads on the planet. While I have my doubts about that
theory... evidently Tama and Marshall counties didn't get the memo.
I've
counted no less than 12 percent of my seniors this summer and fall have
been red heads. Considering that just one to two percent of persons
globally have two copies of a recessive gene on chromosome 16 causing this... I'd say we've gotten our fair share this year!
