Family Ties: Scotty... Hurling his way to the obscure...

I've heard somewhere that you should never do work for family...

Well... we threw that out the window Wednesday afternoon as Scotty passed us a visit from Tama.

Scotty's Dad is my wife's cousin and anyone that knows the Haughey family from the Tama area knows that the family is HUGE. So, I've had my fair share of cousins and second cousins from this gang over the years. I admitted to Scotty's mom, Karen, that even after knowing my wife for going on 22 years now, I STILL feel like I'm trying to keep all the family straight in my head.

So, the bottom line here is that sessions like this allows this former "outsider" to draw a little closer to my spouse's tight knit mega-family. I got to know a little more about Scotty... and this is what I learned.

Dude likes Hurley brand clothing.

Four outfits... 3 of 'em Hurley. Enuff said.

He's also a fine connoisseur of kicks. I guess the guy really likes his tennis shoes... clean... white... and lots of 'em.

Scotty plays football, hoops, track and baseball for South Tama's Trojans... all of which, conveniently, keeps him from having to get a part-time job. (I used this approach in high school as well, my man... Good job outta you!).

Finally... I found it interesting that our senior guy here puts his affiliations with what I would consider relatively "obscure" major sports franchises... at least for folks in THIS area.

NFL? Bears, Chiefs, Packers, Vikes? Nope.... Eagles. (side note... cousin Nate would make only the SECOND Eagles fan I know in the world... coincidence? You be the judge.)

NBA? Bulls, Lakers, Celtics?. Nada..... Denver Nuggets. Not making it up.

MLB? Cubs, Cards, Twins, Brewers, White Sox? Well... it's the Houston Astros, of course!

Seems to me that Scotty enjoys going against the stream.... a contrarian of sorts... which is cool. I suppose then THAT's why when the world (or your mom) says you should smile... that means Scotty wants to be serious. Only problem is... Karen and Papa Scott forked out $4000+ for ortho over the years.... they want a return on their investment... Fortunately... i was able to coax a few ornery grins outta him.

Thanks for your business guys... I appreciate it!
