I found out something interesting while taking Tanner's session on Thursday. I asked him what position he played on his Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team.
He said cornerback.
Hmmmmm.
Just two days prior, I had photographed a classmate of Tanner, and I swore he said the same thing.
Sure enough he had. So, between Levi and Tanner now, I have the market cornered on Rebel corners! (insert groan here) :-)
Interestingly, although the guys play the same position, I found them to be very different. As crazy as Levi was... Tanner was much more to the vest and, like you might expect from someone that's planning on making the military part of their life, he was mostly business, most of the time.
Military?
While football seemed to be important to Tanner, I felt like his real passion lied with serving our country. Already have been through basic training this summer (complete with a MARATHON visit from the family to South Carolina... note to self... driving 22 hours straight isn't fun), Tanner brought in his fatigues and I thought we captured some images that really honored that part of his life.
I really admire guys that choose this type of path for their lives. As a guy that enjoys his recliner and his remote.. and more importantly, freedom... I'm just really thankful that there ARE guys that feel moved enough to serve and protect. It takes a special person to be so selfless and, I think I speak for a lot of guys when I say that I would have a hard time making such a decision. So, hats off, young man.
