Returning to the scene of the crime...

I've mentioned it before in this blog... so you've gotta figure it was pretty traumatic.

It was 23 years ago... My Wednesday senior boy's mother had just graduated from high school... It was the LAST graduating class from what was then Garwin High School... The Roughriders. That fall, Garwin merged with Green Mountain and the Silver and Black was born in the form of Wolverines and GMG just so happened to field one heck of a football team.

I was a sophomore and part of just one of many teams that got steamrolled by the juggernaut at GMG that fall. The sign on the edge of Garwin still honors the 1987 state champions.

So anytime I've photographed a GMG senior guy that brings in the football gear... I break into a cold sweat... the 50-6 halftime score is flashing before my eyes and visions of Fred Wieck's wrecking crew comes rushing back.

And while the 2010 edition of the Wolverines aren't what GMG faithful would hope for in the W-L department, I spent a long portion of Brody's session talking the old days with his mom, Shannon. Brody's uncle, Brandon, and I locked horns against each other for the majority of our high school days and so, it was a fun session of remembering and connecting the dots.

Fast forward 23 years and Brody is in the midst of Homecoming Week at GMG. He a king candidate which is awesome! I stole him last week for a few hours... banged out some cool images... worked in his winter sled... and then at the end of the session... I asked if I could do something special for them...

Return to the scene of the crime...

To come full circle, I thought it would be cool to take the 10 minute drive up to Garwin... go to the football field... and get Brody something special to him and his family. (Dad grew up around Garwin, too). So, we did that, and as luck would have it... I got to take advantage of the fact that GMG put in a brand new scoreboard on the east end of the football field. (rumor has it that the 1987 team WORE OUT the one on the west end) ;-).

So #5 and I, with the assistance from the old Roughrider mom of his, got some unique stuff to cap the day. I spent some time laying on the grass on the old field... this time on my stomach... rather than on my butt or flat on my back after getting ran over by Sinclair, Koester, Witbracht, Hlas and Co.

Best wishes to Brody and all our wonderful GMG clients that have been so good to us this week as you celebrate your Homecoming! Beat North Butler!

These are GREAT pictures of Brody, Bryan! I love the one with him, the helmet and the scoreboard. You always capture great moments. And the description of how the day unfolded I'm sure will be a wonderful reminder for the family not only of Brody's years leading to this- his Senior- but of the others that have passed too.
